We publish independent, editorially-driven comparisons of AI tools — with no paid placements, no affiliate pressure, and pricing verified every month.
Why we built this
In 2024, we were frustrated by AI comparison sites that ranked tools by whoever paid the highest affiliate commission, showed pricing that was months out of date, and offered no real depth of testing. We decided to build the resource we actually wanted to use.
CompareBest is independently operated. We earn revenue through clearly-labelled affiliate links to company websites, but our editorial rankings and scores are set independently of these relationships. A tool cannot buy a higher ranking.
How we review AI tools
Hands-on testing
Every tool we review is tested directly, using standardised task sets across categories: long-form writing, code generation, image quality, response accuracy, and so on. We pay for subscriptions with our own money.
Pricing verification
We check each company's official pricing page monthly and note the date of each update. We do not rely on third-party pricing databases, which are frequently out of date.
Editorial scoring
Each tool is scored across five dimensions: ease of use, features, value for money, API quality, and support quality. Scores are set editorially and reviewed quarterly.
Monthly data review
AI pricing and features change frequently. We review every listed tool monthly and update content whenever material changes occur. Each page shows its review date.
Our editorial standards
We follow these principles on every page we publish:
- No paid placements. Vendors cannot pay to improve their ranking or score.
- Affiliate links are labelled. Where we use affiliate links, they are identified as sponsored.
- We cite sources. Pricing figures link to official company pages. User numbers come from official statements or credible press coverage.
- We show our working. Our scoring methodology is documented in detail on the methodology page.
- We update promptly. When a tool changes its pricing or removes features, we update within 30 days or sooner if the change is material.
